Description: These oil painting classes will emphasize working quickly and completing at least two paintings in 4 afternoons. We will be using a direct approach, which the impressionists called “Alla Prima,” or “all at once.” Your completed paintings will have a fresh, spontaneous feel. We will be working from your photos (or mine) for reference and inspiration, and not just to “copy.” You will create new, unique, beautiful works of art! Technique, composition, color and values will all be addressed, as a group and individually. This class is for all levels of painters. I will be doing several quick demos, as well as giving, frequent, constructive class critiques.

Description: Award-winning painter and instructor Victoria Brooks will be teaching a six-day, seven night workshop in The Cinque Terre region of Italy September 14 –21, 2013. Travel, discovery and plein air painting in this breathtakingly beautiful National Park on the Ligurian Coast of Italy. The five villages: Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza and Monterosso are located on five miles of rocky coast in eastern Liguria overlooking the sea with sheer vertical cliffs that are alternated with turquoise bays, winding paths and enchanting small beaches and fishing ports. The precipitous slopes behind the villages have been cultivated for centuries into lovely terracing vineyards. Experience its centuries old villages, crystal blue water, beaches, vineyards, landscape, people and culture.

This painting workshop will emphasize working quickly using a direct approach, which the impressionists called “Alla Prima” or “all at once”. One of the goals of this workshop is to simplify and organize visual information to capture the ambience of The Cinque Terre with a fresh spontaneous feel. Technique, composition, color and values will all be addressed, as a group and individually. This class is for all levels of painters.
